HIV/AID Awareness:
I read some interesting HIV facts at http://www.cdc.gov.com/ about the challenges that women face regarding the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Lack of money to pay for medical care, being in an abusive relationship and afraid to question their partner about their sexual activity, and even faltering in their own personal care while trying to care for their children. These are some of the things that don't usually come to mind. You can check the fact list in its entirety here:http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/women/challenges.htm

What I'm Reading: The Conversation  By Hill Harper

Just picked this book up on Friday. This book talks about the breakdown of African American relationships. It forces us to think and talk about the different aspects of relationships (what women want in relationships, what men want, the languages of both sexes, Dating, learning to let go of the baggage, Sex, Love, Lust, etc......) I'm only a few pages into the first chapter, but I think this will be an intersting read. If you've read it already, let me know what you think! I checked http://www.amazon.com/ and found that there were some really good reviews of this book.

Tiger Wood's Apology

So, Tiger apologizes to THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.

  • Whatcha think about Tiger's apology? I HAVEN'T about it!
  • Was it sincere? I don't care!
  •  Was it necessary? Not at all. None of our business. Between he and his family! Did you apologize in public? lol
  • Do you even care? H%& Naw!! (excuse the language)

Speaking of Tiger and such behavior, be sure to protect yourself and others because HIV/AIDS is VERY real!!! As a reminder,  National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS awareness Day is approaching (MARCH 10, 2010). Stay tuned for Red Pump events taking place in Charlotte!

I Love Me some ME!!

I love the woman that I see as I look into the mirror each day! I absolutely LOVE the woman that I've become. As I've aged, I've learned that there is nothing more beautiful than the people we see looking back at us each day. Sure I have flaws and imperfections, but they are a part of who I am. They make me ME. As women we are beautiful creatures, all with different features, different bodies, different talents, different strenghts and different weaknesses. Our variations are what make us so beautiful. If we were all the same, how boring would the world be?

If you see anything less than beauty when you look in the mirror each day, you have some work to do! Forget what people think about you because ultimately you control what they think! If you walk in confidence that's what they see. It will show in the way we carry ourselves, the friends we choose, the type of life we live, etc.. If you shelter insecurties, guess what, people see that too! Learn to love and appreciate what you see and who you are becoming because you determine what is beatiful about you!

Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti!

So, I picked this book up YEARS ago and never read it. It's written by husband and wife Bill and Pam Farrel. Pam and Bill attempt to share their advice on marriage and helping men and women connect. Basically, they explain why men are more like waffles and women are more like spaghetti.

While thumbing through the book (after all these years) I came across some funny advice of how men and women impress each other. Here goes:

How To Impress A Woman:
Compliment her, cuddle her, kiss her, caress her, love her, stroke her, tease her, comfort her, protect her, hug her, hold her, spend money on her, dine her, buy her things, listen to her, care for her, stand by her, support her, go to the ends of the earth for her!

How To Impress A Man:
Show up Naked!

What'cha think? True? Funny?.................I think so!

Kids!! Fabmom In Need of Advice!

Spent the last couple hours of the evening fussing with the kids. I have a son (14) and a daughter (9) who can not get along for nothing in this world. She knows how to push his buttons and he allows her to get the best of him every time. So, I have to listen to the screams and the arguing EVERYDAY! Someone please help!!! How do you teach sibblings to get along? Is that even possible?

AIDS awareness fact:At the end of 2007, the estimated numbers of adults and adolescents living with AIDS were highest in the South and Northeast, and lowest in the Midwest. The states with the most AIDS diagnoses were found in the south, but the cities with the most AIDS cases were spread across the country. Blacks/African Americans accounted for the largest proportion of AIDS cases in all areas except the West where whites accounted for the highest number of cases.

Please check out this interesting review of a lecture from AIDS activist Rae Lewis-Thornton. Please share this story with every young girl that you know. http://www.theredpumpproject.com/

She doesn't like to be corrected and gets an attitude when told to make a correction. I get upset when she gets an attitude! UGH. Any teachers online. Please share some advice!

CHANGE!

Definitions of Change:

  • To make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone: to change one's name; to change one's opinion; to change the course of history.
  • To transform or convert (usually fol. by into):
  • To give and take reciprocally; interchange: to change places with someone.
  • To transfer from one (conveyance) to another:
I once had a conversation with a close friend who mentioned that they were not willing to CHANGE who they were for a relationship. This was quite interesting to me. Why are we so afraid of CHANGE? CHANGE is not always a bad thing. In fact, it can be quite beneficial.  I personally, WANT to change. Not necessarily for a relationship, but simply for the purpose of growth. I am NOT who I was two years ago and I definitely don't want to remain the same two years from now. I want to become a better person. I will not CHANGE the essence of who I am, but I certainly want to form a bond with that person during the course of the relationship, I hope to transform my bad habits into to good ones. I will give of myself and hope that I have will receive reciprocally. I hope to transform my relationship into something substantial and hopefully at some point, CHANGE my last name! If all of this means CHANGE, then hey, I'm ready! Are you ready for CHANGE?

Don't Ask Don't Tell

I don't know much about the Military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. They're talking about it on Larry King Live. My question about the subject is: Why do we as Americans spend so much time worrying about a person's personal sexual preference?  Excuse my language, but I don't give a damn! When it comes to getting a job done, that's what's most important (in any field). A person's job performance is what should matter and is what is importance. I could care less if you're gay, straight or crooked, if you can get the job done, then please do so! If I (as a woman) chose to be with another woman, that should not affect my job because what I do at home is my personal business. By the way, I don't do women (just thought I'd make that clear).
We (as a people in general) are so judgemental and narrow minded. Okay. That is all!

Happy Black History Month!

Happy Black History Month!

Today, I give THANKS to my ancestors that fought for freedom, respect, justice, well-being and peace for ALL nationalities! I also give THANKS to those of other races that also fought for the justice, education and fair treatment of African Americans and ALL races! I pray for a world of peace and "togetherness".
