Today is the third day of camp for my son and he has enjoyed it! I'm so proud of him for being open for new opportunities. He's on his way to 10th grade and although I make most, well all of his decisions for him, he is pretty open to meeting new people and trying anything at least once. I'm realizing that he is growing up and as hard as it is for me, I have to allow him to make some decisions on his own and to let him develop his own character. So far, he's doing well. He's a good kid. I'm confident that this program will help him stay focused and hopefully, he'll even mature a little! I'm so grateful!

A Little Discomfort
Happy Monday! I woke up this morning and the the word "discomfort" immediately came to mind. Today is my son's first day participating in a mentoring program for young black males. Although it's a positive program with tons of benefits for him, he would much rather spend his summer doing things of his own choice. I explained to him that in order to progress in school, in a career and in life, there will and must be some level of discomfort. Being too comfortable will stagnate us and leave us in the same place for years. I'm excited for him. I know the feeling of being around people you don't know and in an environment in which you are unfamiliar, however, this experience will teach him the importance of networking and getting to know people from other walks of life. As an adult, I am familiar with discomfort. In fact, I welcome it into my life right now. I too have been stangant in my career and my life and I am now looking for opportunities to grow, advance, network and just live a more exciting life altogether. I'm happy for my son and the little hint of discomfort that he is experiencing as I type this post. I can't wait to see his growth at the end of the summer.

The Fathers In My Life
As I reminisce on my childhood, I realize how lucky I was to have two fathers. My biological father; Paul Abraham and my step father; Harvey Sanders. Both were influential figures in my life and both are great grand parents to my children. My biological father, Paul taught me that it’s never too late to pick up the pieces in your life and start anew. At nearly 40 years old, he stumbled and lost nearly everything he had; his apartment, his car, and his job. It wasn’t long before he regrouped and pulled his life back together. During his downfall, we remained close and I learned not to judge people for their circumstances because even the strongest can fall and get back up again.
Harvey was more influential during my child hood. At a very young age, he taught me to be self sufficient. That doesn’t mean not to ask for help when I need it, but to attempt to do things on my own first. As soon as I learned how to drive a car, I also learned how to change a tire as well as how to put motor oil in my own car. Harvey was a great provider for our family. We didn’t have everything we wanted, but we had everything we needed.
I give honor to them both. Many children grow up without even one father. I was lucky enough to have two. Thank you Paul and Harvey. I love you both. Thank you for teaching me and thank your for loving me.

I LOVE being a Black Woman! There is nothing more beautiful!

Tuesday, June 15, 2010
This is a subject that I really did not want to touch upon on my blog because I don't want to be depicted as an angry black woman, however it is something that bothers me. First question: Why do men who pay court ordered child support play the role of a victim? Within the past month, I have heard 2 men say "she got what she deserved" or "she's the one who went to the court, so now she's gonna get less". Second question: Is it just my thinking or have men forgotten that child support is support for the CHILD; not the mother? Who is the victim here? The father who is FORCED to provide financial support for THEIR child or the child who may be lacking necessities due to a selfish, non-supportive father?
Let me get this right:So you feel "slighted" or "betrayed" because the mother of your child is asking for financial support? Men, please try and understand this: Child support is NOT for the mother. I repeat. It is NOT for the mother. In family law and government policy, child support is the ongoing practice for a periodic payment made for the financial care and support of children of a relationship or marriage that has been terminated. The purpose of child support is to cover costs incurred from raising a child, which includes but is not limited to food, shelter, school lunch, medical expenses, clothes, schools supplies, daycare, afterschool care, summer camp costs, extra curricular activites (sports, dance, etc..) tutoring, libraries fees, gas to transport them back and forth from A to B.
Now that I've got that off my chest....I will say, that there are some GREAT fathers out there. I happen to know several. To those men, I say "hats off to you, Thank you for caring. I respect you and I pray that our future (especially in the African American community) will see many more great fathers like you".
Thanks and have a fabulous day.

Today I choose to be happy and to free my mind of negative thoughts. The more we harp on the things that aren't going right around us, the worst we will feel. Challenges will come and we know this. How we react in times of challenges make all the difference. Throughout the day listen to uplifting music or refer to enfluential quote. Ralph Marston has some good ones. Think of things that make you feel good or wear something that makes you feel beautiful. Do anything that keeps your thoughts on POSITIVE!!
Also, let's all make a special effort to surround ourselves around happy, positive people. Some people are so miserable and insecure. Give those type of people some space or else they'll begin to rub off on you and you'll soon be acting in the same manner. Have a great day folks. Stay fabulous!!!
Do something nice for someone today! It will make you feel good!!!

I am so grateful to have lived to see another day and therefore, I will maximize my efforts in EVERYTHING I do. No use in being mediocre. I realize that some things in my life could be a bit better, but guess what if I had done better, things will be better. Not all of our challenges are within our control, but MANY of them are! Some of us need to evaluate our lives (including me) and rethink some of our priorities.
Lots going on with me. Kids have one more day in school!! I'm as excited as they are because I can sleep 30 minutes during the week!! Yay for me!! They will be sadly mistaken though if they think they're getting an academic break. I'm going to break them alright. My daughter needs alot of work in order to be prepared for 5th grade. Thank GOD for her 4th grade teacher for referring me to some good educational websites to visit this summer and for providing me with a math textbook to use for the summer. In case anyone is interested, the websites she referred to me are: http://edhelper.com/, http://multiplication.com/, http://fractions.com/ and http://www.spellingcity.com/.
My son needs an organizational and structure class!! Hopefully, if he is accepted into the Emerging Leaders product, he'll get some practice.
Okay, folks. I'm headed to work. Remember that positive actions follow positive thoughts. So think good things all day today! :0)

Reading a book titled "Confidence (how to succeed at being yourself" by Alan Loy McGinnis

- Distinguish between who you are and what you do
- Find something you like to do and do well, then do it over and over

- Dare to be a little eccentric
- Make the best possible peace with your parents
- Determine to intergrate the body and spirit
- Determine to live above neurotic guilt

Happy Early Memorial Day
Happy Early Memorial Day!
Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service. In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries. Many people celebrate by spending time with their loved ones. As you prepare for Memorial Day weekend, please remember to think about the people that have and is sacrificing their lives for our freedom and saftey. Please be responsible in whatever activities you particpate in. Do NOT drink and drive.

Janet's New Hair Cut
So I'm roaming around on the internet tonight and ran across a picture of Janet Jackson dressed really pretty with what seemed to be a short haircut. Sure enough it is! Janet has cut off all of her hair! See some of the pics here. I think she looks beautiful. They say older women look better with short hair. I guess I'm keeping mine short! :0) For more pictures, check out http://www.concreteloop.com/ . Janet is simply beautiful. No matter how she wears her hair.

I had a conversation the other day with a friend guy. I explained to him that he was a great guy, but he just wasn't the guy for me. After a number of "nice" explantions, I finally had to come flat out and tell him that at this point in life, I preferred someone that was more stable than he is. I encouraged him to focus on his life and try to get things in order for himself financially. That was the easiest way for me to say "I ain't dealing with no broke-broke"! His response: "I feel you. I want to be where you are one day. I'm all for stabilism." STABILISM! My response: That is not word!
That's when I pulled my dictionary out and ended the conversation.....for good.

Self Preservation (Dealing With Offense)
Good morning and Happy Monday!
I'm still reading the book "The Bait of Satan". As I've shared before, this book deals with offense. It teaches how to overcome offense and how to deal with internal issues that lead to offense. When I read self help books, I often highlight important notes and then go back into the book and re-read pieces. This helps me alot because I usually find important notes that pertain to how I'm feeling at certain times. Like today, I found a highlighted note that talks about Self-Preservation and how we isolate ourselves when we feel offended. I am the first to admit that I shelter myself when I feel like someone has offended me. I've always believed that this was my way of preventing an argument or going off on someone, but really it's a to protect myself and to ignore my insecurities or the role that I played in the situation. Here's what the book says about self preservation:
"A common excuse for self-preservation through disobedience is offense. There is a flase sense of self protection in harboring an ofense. It keeps your from seeing your own character flaws because the blame is deffered to another. You never have to face your role, your immaturity, or your sin because you only see the faults of the offender. Therefore, God's attempt to develop character in your by this opposition is now abandoned. The offended person will avoid the source of the offense and eventually flee, becoming a spirtual vagabond."
So basically, when we back away from an offense, we ultimately lose because we miss out on opportunities for GOD to build our character. This is something that we should all think about the next time we're offended. Is the offense really an offense or are we trying to protect ourselves from what we know is true? What are your thoughts?

10 Discussions To Have With The New Guy
Every woman should have candid conversations with the men we meet in order to really get to know that person. Here are the top 10 discussions that I think are important:
- Marital Status- We often assume that dude is not married, but if you just ASK, he'll tell you. Don't ask and he won't. He'll wait until you ask.
- His relationship with the mother of his children -most men our age 30 and up DO have kids by now. I appreciate men who respect the mother of their kids and have maintained a good relationship with them.
- Work ethic-How long has he been at his job? Does he even work now? If not, get to stepping. You will soon be paying for the dates, gas, etc..
- Financial Stability- You don't need to know what's in his bank account, but hell can he at least keep his cell phone on?
- HIV status-For real, ask him when the last time he was tested and what the results are.
- His relationsip with his family-If he doesn't have a relationship with his family, ask him why? If it's not important to him, but you value family, then this union may not last for long
- Jealousy-This is self explanatory
- Religion-Does he go to church-if he doesn't go to church now, don't expect him to always want to go with you. If he believes in a different spiritiful figure than you, don't count him off, get to learn what his beliefs are and determine if you are willing to compromise in the future.
- His relationship with his kids-If he doesn't spend time with his own kids, he probably won't give a damn about yours. Bottom line
- Has he spent time in jail?-How often has he had run ins with the law? Does he respect the law? If not, he won't give a damn about respecting you.
- Ask him SPECIFIC questions about past relationships-try to get information from him about his cheating patterns and things like domestic violence. That will tell you how he feels about respecting women (I know I said 10, but this one was equally important)
What are some important discussions you have when you first meet a guy?

Good morning,
This is some very important information that I wanted to share from Emerging Leaders!
Passing the torch of leadership to the next generation!
INFORMATION MEETING
Free Summer Program for Black Males
Saturday, May 15, 2010
9:30 am - 12:30 pm
York County Public Library
138 Black Street (beside Police Department)
Rock Hill, South Carolina 29732
Register online at www.elmp2010.com
ATTENTION PARENTS!
Has your son applied for admission into the
FREE Leadership Development Summer Program?
Application deadline is May 15, 2010
The Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program (ELMP) for Black Males is hosting a free six-week "Leadership Development Summer Program" for black male teens from June 21 through August 6 on the campus of Barber-Scotia College in Concord, NC. We are inviting applicants from Cabarrus, Gaston, Mecklenburg, and York counties to apply for admission.
LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE
Parents, please do NOT allow your sons to tell you they do not want to apply for admission into this life-saving program! Research shows that we lose many of our children during the summer due to them becoming bored and choosing to engage in negative activities.
Our program provides mental, physical, and spiritual development. The "Leadership Development Summer Program" is not the typical "camp". Instead, this program allows your sons to meet some of the most successful black men in the four-county region we serve. Your sons will also be able to complete a major community service project. Finally, because we realize the importance of including FUN activities in the program, your sons will enjoy field trips each Friday!
PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIALS
In closing, please select the link below to see video testimonials that four participants shared last year about their experiences during the 2009 Summer Program. You will be amazed!

Sincerely,
Brian Freeland, Program Manager
Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program for Black Males

We look forward to seeing you at the
INFORMATION MEETING!
Feel free to bring your son's application to the meeting.

Redirect Your Thoughts
A good way to move forward in life or to achieve goals is to focus positively on the things that we want instead of focusing on the things that we don't want. I have a habit of stressing on the things that I don't want to happen in my life instead of imagining things to play out how I actually want them. I'm actually going through this as I type!! I'm hoping that I can look back and take my own advice.
It is very important that we pay attention to our thoughts because as we've learned from the book "The Secret", we bring to life the very things that we focus on (good and bad)
Good example: most of my readers know that my son has Sickle Cell Disease. 2008 was a tough year for us. My son was in and out of the hospital frequently. In 2009, he started to spend less time in the hospital. At one point, he had gone almost 9 months without being admitted. I realized this and brought it to his attention and shortly after, he was back in the hospital. We had another incidence a few weeks ago, where I brought up the fact that it's been about 6 months since he's been in the hosptial and sure enough, we were at the emergency room a few days later. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are other factors such as the weather and physical activity that brought about his crisis, but my point is my constant thinking about this has in some way brought it to reality.
A good tip on correcting negative thinking is to re-route those negative thoughts when arrive and speak of only those things that we want to happen. Example: I am looking foward to having a nice dinner with an old friend. Or perhaps, instead of saying, hope I haven't gained too much weight for my favorite pair or jeans, one could say something like, I look foward to fitting comfortably in my size 4 jeans. In my case, I think it's best that I don't make mention of my son's illness as it relates to having a crisis. The reality of this situation is that I have to actively make sure that he eats well, take his meds and watch his physical activity, but I will not make mention of the pain crisis and hosptitalizations.
If you have any tips to postive thinking, please share them in comments.

AIDS Walk Charlotte 2010
I know it has taken me a whole week, but here are the pics from the AIDS Walk Charlotte event. There were just a few family members and friends that walked with me, but I'm grateful for the support.
Thanks to all who supported my team (Fabulous In 2010)! We met our recruiting and fundraising goals. Our goal was to raise $200. We raised $225. This was our first year, but we'll definitely do it again. We had so much fun. This wasn't a sad, dreary event at all. There were freebies, music, dancing (we got our cupid shuffle and single ladies on) and lots of mingling. This was a great event. Thanks to the Regional Aids Interfaith Network, Radio Stations Power 98 and Kiss 95.1 and Rosedale for sponsoring this event!

Sunday Night on VHI
A Family Business
I kind of like this show. Brandy and Ray J both seem to love the cameras. Brandy seems to want to be hood to me. Their mom is super agressive. It seems to work with their business relationship, but not for their personal relationship. It's seems as though Brandy wants to improve the personal relationship, but her mom is too head strong to really care.
Basketball Wives
Not really into this show. Nothing but instigating and signifying (as my grandmother would say) grown women. The only reaoson I'm watching is because "What Chilli Wants" comes up next. The most interesting piece of this show is the relationship between Jen and Eric Williams. You know, the obnoxious rude, cheating basketball player. I'm very interested in seeing if Jennifer would eventually leave her jof a husband. Doubt it. I think she's afraid to give up the life style.
What Chilli Wants
Chilli and her checklist. What can I say? Realistic or not? Everyone should have standards and STICK TO THEM, but Chilli has a checklist out of this world. Whew! In this episode, her love coach convinces her to see a therapist to get to the underlying concerns that Chilli has with men. It appears that Chilli follows her mind more than she follows her heart. That's a good thing, however, it may prevent her from seeing some good traits in some of the men that she is introduced to. Now that relationship coach of hers, Tiona is another story. She's made some good points about Chilli, but I would love to know what her success rate has been with other clients. It must be pretty good because why else would Chilli work with her. Tiona is a hot, loud mess. I'm very interested in knowing if Tiona can actually find Chilli a man. Guess I'll have to stay tuned.

The best experience that a person can gain from life is to take risks. I'm learning that as each day go by. Being afraid to fail can be a huge set back. It prevents us from pressing forward and reaching for our dreams. We can't win at everything and experiencing failures is a sure way to strengthen us for success. One problem that I have is always trying to prepare for things to happen and expecting them to happen in the order that I want them to instead of just allowing things to be. I really need to relax and be willing to take more risks! That's my goal for the rest of the year! Whoo-hoo! Wish me luck.

Happy Monday!!
Today is somewhat a dreary Monday. Looks like it's going to rain. I plan on making it a good day. Hope no drama ensues! I had a busy weekend, especially on Saturday. Spent time with my family, did the AIDS Walk Charlotte, went to my daughter's track meet (Go Charlotte Heat!) and watch Sugar Shane get whooped up!!! I love Pretty Boy Floyd!

Happy Friday!
Good/great morning!!! Woke up this morning feeling like Diddy! Not because I'm rich, but because I feel like "GREATNESS" and my confidence is through the roof right now. And who do you know in the world more confident than Diddy? Not quite sure where this is coming from since I got very little sleep, but I'll take it. Too bad I can't think of any Diddy verses right now or else I'll quote one. Nah, that might be a good thing! Anyway, have a great day folks and know that anything is possible if you BELIEVE!!

Time For A Change!!
I'm also feeling like I want to leave Charlotte. I've been here all of my life and I want to try somewhere differerent. Something new. Something refreshing. Most of my family (all of the family that I'm close with) is here in Charlotte, so it's scary to move to a city where I'll have no support. Waiting for a knight in shining armor to come sweep me off my feet :0)
I've been at my job for close the 13 years and I'm starting to crave a new career as well. I feel like I want to do something creative! If I could work for free, I would do a number of things. Perhaps some sort of non-profit business to empower and help women. I would also love to own a chic/funky consignment store.
Change is risky, yet good. I'm constantly being reminded that anything worth having requires a risk. Now, I guess all I have to do is stop being scared and get to moving!!

Love My Lay It On Thick Lotion
There are some things that I will share with my kids and there are things that they had better not place their paws on. My True Blue Lay It On Thick is one of them. This is my favorite body cream from Bath & Body Works......Actually from anywhere! It's thick and creamy and has a coconut-y smell. And surprisingly it blends well with any perfume that I wear. Need a thick and creamy lotion that lasts all day? You should try lay it on thick. Get a small one for $15 or a large one for $20!

Morning Laugh
I wore open toe shoes this morning and my co-worker (an older woman) told me that it wasn't time to wear open toe shoes (although she's wearing sling backs) because it's not summer yet! She said that she wouldn't start wearing open toe shoes until May or June. So my opinion is that if it's warm enough to wear them, who says I have to wait until it's officially summer? Also, if you can wear sling backs (with the back of your feet out) why can't you wear open toe shoes or sandals (with the front of your feet out)? We had a whole discussion around this issue and funny enough, it wasn't our first! What is your opinion?

Losing Weight
Why is it that people who claim to want to lose weight, stay doing things that won't help them lose weight? Like, talking about it every five minutes, taking the elevator instead of the stairs, fighting for that closest parking lot instead of parking in the back and walking towards the building, and eating foods that they KNOW they shouldn't have?
I know it's none of my business, but it aggrivates me. The next time someone comes to me talking about losing weight and I see any of this foolishness, I'm gonna say "quit lying". Seriously!

Two Sides To A Coin
Looking at the “tails” side of a situation will put you in a tailspin. But, if you flip the coin over to “heads,” you find a completely different side of the same coin. What’s on that side? Yes, your kids are acting crazy, but isn’t a blessing to have them? An infertile woman would give her life for your babies. There might not be enough money in your account to cover your expenses, but when has God ever failed you? How many meals have you missed? How many times have you ever gone without transportation or shelter? And, yes, the creditors are calling you, but that’s their job to do. It doesn’t have to overwhelm you. Bless God for the fact that you have a phone! And, the job that sucks to you pays your bills and keeps you out of the unemployment line. Some things are blessings in disguise!
Every day of your life you get to choose whether you will be ahead or in a tailspin. You get to choose what side of the coin determines the outcome of your day, your life. No one can flip the coin over but you. In everything, there is a reason to bless the Lord. And, putting yourself in a position to bless God puts you in a position to continue to receive His blessings.

I attended church today with my friend Tosha. She is a member at New Birth Charlotte under Bishop Terrell Murphy. I had a great time in church today. I love what the church is doing in the Huntersville and Charlotte communities. They honored four teachers from Charlotte area schools today (Bradley middle, Bailey Middle, Ranson Middle and J.M. Alexander) for their Teacher Of The Year initiative. Students in each school were asked to write an essay explaining how a teacher had touched their life and why the teacher deserved this award. The selected students attended service today and took part in awarding the teachers with a check for $2,000.00!! This was an awesome way to award teachers for their hard work especially with threats of teacher job cuts within Mecklenburg county. It's great to know that there are still good teachers out there! I was also pleased with how Bishop Murphy encouraged everyone to use their gifts to bring glory to Jesus and to learn how to connect what we do (our gifts) to the kingdom of God by helping out in the community, in the church, etc.) Again, I really enjoyed the service today. The church family welcomed everyone with smiles and warm hugs. I felt very comfortable (even sitting on the third row). My son said he enjoyed it and wants to go back, so we will be visiting again in the near future.

Be The Real You (Ralph Marston)
I absolutley love Ralph Marston's message for today. As women, we are constantly striving to look a certain way, to be a certain size and perhaps to reach a goal or dream that isn't sincerely our own. I cannot stress the importance of being our true selves. It is definitely a work in progress, but the beauty of it is that it's authentic. WE are authentic.
Be the real you
Let life know who you are. If you have to hide yourself to get what you want, do you really even want it?
And while you're at it, make sure you let yourself know who you are. Be absolutely honest and authentic, especially with yourself.
It's easy to get what you want from life. The real difficult and essential work is figuring out what that is.
If you think it might be nice, that's not enough. If it looks good on somebody else, that's not enough.
What you truly want is what you dearly love. It is something that uniquely and elegantly expresses the real, live, passionate person you are.
You cannot find that or follow it by pretending to be who you're not. Be the real you, all the time, and joyfully feel the flow of your own great abundance.
-- Ralph Marston

Zara
My girlfriend, Tosha and I took a quick road trip to Georgia on Saturday night and drove right back on Sunday. The purpose of our trip? Zara's clothing! Yes, we drove to Atlanta to go shopping. Not to mention, the time spent with my best friend is priceless. We hardly ever get time to ourselves, so this is our BFF time to catch up on our lives and the foolishness that goes on in the world.
Now, back to Zara's We don't have a Zara's here in Charlotte and Atlanta has the closest locations (Perimeter and Lennox malls) Zara's clothes are chic and affordable. If you love current, yet classic fashions, you'll love Zara's. And they always have sales. We've never visted Zara's and walked out empty handed. It's definitely worth the drive.
We also stopped by the Little Five Point's shopping district. They had some really cool consignment shops. We'll have to stop in a few of those next time.
Oops, forgot to mention our favorite place to eat! Pappadeux's Seafood Kitchen. Be sure to check that out the next time you're in Georgia. The food is the best. My recommendation? Try their Lobster Bisque soup!
You can check out their website at http://www.zara.com/

The Ideal Time
Good morning and Happy Monday. The message below was written by Ralph Marston. It is a very powerful message. Please take a moment to read.
If you wait for the ideal situation, it will never come. If you create the ideal situation, it will always be, whenever you choose for it to be.
There are plenty of excuses you can make for why this is not the time to act. And while you're busy making those excuses, someone else is busy taking those same actions that you are merely considering.
The time is right when you make it right. Waiting and hoping for things to get better will just allow things to get worse.
If it's important to you, figure out a way to get started on it now. Because the more you delay, the more you're telling yourself that it's really not that important.
Why would you want to spend your time setting yourself up for disappointment? Instead, you can spend that time marching steadily toward your goals.
The ideal time is when you make it, and what you make it. Make it now, and make it great.
-- Ralph Marston

Tips on Saving Money
One of my biggest challenges in life has always been saving money and preparing for emergencies. This is still a challenge for me, yet I am working hard at it. I found a great article that provided some tips on saving over at blackenterprise.com. The article was written by Keesa Schreame. Check it out:

Communicating With Our Children. Why It's So Important
As a parent, I've learned that communicating effectively with our children is important and it varies for each child. My mother was a yeller and I've learned that so am I. I've also learned that yelling is not very effective. 1., it's offensive (I hated to be yelled at as a child), 2. it doesn't necessarily guarantee results and 3. it damages the trust value between the parent and child. Johanna Sorrentino, wrote an article titled "The Art Of Communication". This article provides really good tips on how parents can be effective at communicating with their children and getting desired results.
This is a really good article for parents of teenagers. I have definitely taken pointers on how to become more effective with communication with my own teenager.
Here are a few quick pointers in the article, but I suggest you read it in its entirety.
1. Teens don't want to hear "No." They would rather hear other options that lead to "YES"
2. Criticsm damages your teens self esteem
3. Don't lecture. It's not effective
4. Have family meetings where everyone has an opportunity to share their feelings
5. Work to build trust with your teen by really listening to him or her

My New Favorite Beauty Product (Mat Velvet by Make Up For Ever)
I shared my disappointment with a friend who told me about her recent experience with Make Up For Ever's Mat Velvet Matifying Foundation!!!! Let her tell it, this make up made her looked airbrushed! After testing for the perfect match (that's another story) I've found my new favorite beauty product!!!! This foundation is great so far. It has staying power, it really IS a mat foundation, it covers my blemishes, but doesn't look caked on like some well known beauty products and most of all, it's OIL FREE. Just what I need!
My only dissapointment is that there is no perfect shade for me so I had to purchase two different shades. Color match 80 is a little dark for me (but will probably work perfectly in the summer) while color match 75 is too light. So basically, I have to mix the two together to get a perfect match (See my pics below). But hey I guess it pays to look fab!! I also purchased the translucent powder which adds a flawless finish while absorbing the oils in my face. Okay ladies, what's your new favorite beauty product?

Well the weekend is over. Back to another work week. Not having a fabulous Monday! I need some encouragement. Nothing is really wrong, just in a stinky mood! Don't like when I feel this way because usually someone else will feel it too! :(. All it takes is for one of my co-workers to rub me the wrong way. If anyone has any encouraging words, please send them my way. I could really use them today!
My weekend was somewhat stressful. My dog got really sick and had to be hospitalized Friday night. She's home and is much better now. I had to kick out a pretty penny for the hospital care. Any hoot, I'm glad she's better!!! Sunday was spent with the kids and some of my younger cousins. I really enjoyed them, now back to another work week.

2010 Census Form
Good morning!!
Back at it again, ready to make it a great day! I just completed my census form and dropped it in the mailbox. Be sure to complete yours. Heard some talk on the radio this morning about how the form displays the race for African Americans. If you've completed your form, maybe you've noticed the section where it asks your race. One section states Black, African American, or Negro. Haven't seen Negro on anything in a while. What's your opinion about this? I'm not personally offended because I try to ignore nonsense, however others are offended (understandably). What do you think?
Also, I found this article about it on New York Daily News Website. Check it out.

Do you!!!!
When you commit to something, there's always going to be challenges trying to keep you from your committment. There will always be someone telling you that it won't work or that it's not a smart decision. And there will always be a voice within telling you not to do it. IGNORE that voice and those people. Stand up to the challenges and committ to whatever it is that fulfills you. I know this for sure and I honestly have allowed that voice to dictate some of my decisions. I know that I am fabulous and so are you!! Get to moving and ignore that voice. It's NOT real. Do what you feel will fulfill your dreams and ultimately your life. As my friend always say, DO YOU!!!

Good morning fabulous people!!
I'm up and at it early this morning. It's beautiful day so far and a new opportunity for us to make it whatever we want it to be. I want to make it a good day! NO DRAMA! Spring is approaching and I'm definitely ready for it. Usually around this time, people start new diets and workout regimens. I've committed to eating better as well as bringing my own lunch to work. So far, I've done a good job (although it's only Tuesday LOL.) I need to start back walking and working out. My schedule seems to be so busy, but I'll figure out a way to get it in because I can't wait to get into a springish, summerish dress! Okay ladies, what are some of your workout routines and eating regimens looking like? Please share how busy women/mothers can get a quick workout in without having to go to a gym?

HIV/AID Awareness:
I read some interesting HIV facts at http://www.cdc.gov.com/ about the challenges that women face regarding the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Lack of money to pay for medical care, being in an abusive relationship and afraid to question their partner about their sexual activity, and even faltering in their own personal care while trying to care for their children. These are some of the things that don't usually come to mind. You can check the fact list in its entirety here:http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/women/challenges.htm

What I'm Reading: The Conversation By Hill Harper
Just picked this book up on Friday. This book talks about the breakdown of African American relationships. It forces us to think and talk about the different aspects of relationships (what women want in relationships, what men want, the languages of both sexes, Dating, learning to let go of the baggage, Sex, Love, Lust, etc......) I'm only a few pages into the first chapter, but I think this will be an intersting read. If you've read it already, let me know what you think! I checked http://www.amazon.com/ and found that there were some really good reviews of this book.

Tiger Wood's Apology
So, Tiger apologizes to THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.
- Whatcha think about Tiger's apology? I HAVEN'T about it!
- Was it sincere? I don't care!
- Was it necessary? Not at all. None of our business. Between he and his family! Did you apologize in public? lol
- Do you even care? H%& Naw!! (excuse the language)
Speaking of Tiger and such behavior, be sure to protect yourself and others because HIV/AIDS is VERY real!!! As a reminder, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS awareness Day is approaching (MARCH 10, 2010). Stay tuned for Red Pump events taking place in Charlotte!

I Love Me some ME!!
If you see anything less than beauty when you look in the mirror each day, you have some work to do! Forget what people think about you because ultimately you control what they think! If you walk in confidence that's what they see. It will show in the way we carry ourselves, the friends we choose, the type of life we live, etc.. If you shelter insecurties, guess what, people see that too! Learn to love and appreciate what you see and who you are becoming because you determine what is beatiful about you!

Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti!
So, I picked this book up YEARS ago and never read it. It's written by husband and wife Bill and Pam Farrel. Pam and Bill attempt to share their advice on marriage and helping men and women connect. Basically, they explain why men are more like waffles and women are more like spaghetti.
While thumbing through the book (after all these years) I came across some funny advice of how men and women impress each other. Here goes:
How To Impress A Woman:
Compliment her, cuddle her, kiss her, caress her, love her, stroke her, tease her, comfort her, protect her, hug her, hold her, spend money on her, dine her, buy her things, listen to her, care for her, stand by her, support her, go to the ends of the earth for her!
How To Impress A Man:
Show up Naked!
What'cha think? True? Funny?.................I think so!

AIDS awareness fact:At the end of 2007, the estimated numbers of adults and adolescents living with AIDS were highest in the South and Northeast, and lowest in the Midwest. The states with the most AIDS diagnoses were found in the south, but the cities with the most AIDS cases were spread across the country. Blacks/African Americans accounted for the largest proportion of AIDS cases in all areas except the West where whites accounted for the highest number of cases.
Please check out this interesting review of a lecture from AIDS activist Rae Lewis-Thornton. Please share this story with every young girl that you know. http://www.theredpumpproject.com/

Don't Ask Don't Tell
I don't know much about the Military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. They're talking about it on Larry King Live. My question about the subject is: Why do we as Americans spend so much time worrying about a person's personal sexual preference? Excuse my language, but I don't give a damn! When it comes to getting a job done, that's what's most important (in any field). A person's job performance is what should matter and is what is importance. I could care less if you're gay, straight or crooked, if you can get the job done, then please do so! If I (as a woman) chose to be with another woman, that should not affect my job because what I do at home is my personal business. By the way, I don't do women (just thought I'd make that clear).
We (as a people in general) are so judgemental and narrow minded. Okay. That is all!

Living The Life
Are you living the life that you have chosen? Are you in a profession that you truly enjoy? We should all be able to answer "yes" to both of these questions. Unfortunately, many of us aren't. I am truly blessed. I love my life, but if I could chose a profession or a career, I would probably be doing somehthing that fufills my spirit and not for the money (if I could afford to). To be completely honest with you, I would own an upscale consignment shop in the "NoDa" neighborhood of Charlotte, N.C. I love thrift and consignment shopping and this has been a dream of mine for quite some time. I would also sharpen my writing skills and probably do some journalism. Hmmmm, some good ideas. Someone's got some soul searching to do and some dreams to chase. What dreams are you chasing? Share them in comments.
NOTE: Please be sure to check out the article in the sidenote titled "Reclaim Your Finances." This is some valueable information on repairing your finances.

The Importance of Coverletters
Looking for employment/career change? You'll need more than just your resume! Nowadays its very important to include a cover letter with your resume when applying for a job. Most companies actually prefer a cover letter. The cover letter is the icing on the cake. It allows you to thouroughly introduce yourself to the interviewer in ways that the resume can not. Below are some Q&A facts on the purpose and the importance of cover letters. Be sure to share this with anyone you know that may be looking for employment.

Happy Tuesday!
I'm looking forward to a positive day today. Trying to stay focused on the good things. Anything or anyone negative will just ride itself on out!! Hope you all have a blessed day. Be sure to show love to those close to you. Be nice to those who aren't nice to you. It will help you feel better about yourself. Don't let people change you or your actions! That's a hard lesson for me but I know I have to do it. Lesson learned: if something is bothering you, be sure to share it with the person that is causing that pain. Holding the pain inside does you no good. I had a much needed conversation with a loved one last night. It was painful, but I felt liberated when it was over.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
Did you know that in the United States a woman tests positive for HIV every 35 minutes?
Did you know that about 1 in 4 Americans living with HIV are women?
Ladies, this is a serious issue and we MUST educate and protect ourselves as well as each other.

Checking In!
Good morning,
I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't posted in almost a week! What's happening out here in the world? I must get better at posting! I am making a committment right now, right here on this page to post more frequently. I've been quite busy this past few weeks (hmmm....wonder why?), but things are settling down a bit. I get back up and running soon. If anyone has any important topics that they would like for me to discuss or research, please let me know. You can post a comment on this page or submit an email to omarble@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Fab mom!

This Was Just A Year Ago. Amazing!
TODAY: in 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 makes an emergency landing into the Hudson River shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in New Your City - the flight was bound for Charlotte. All passengers and crew members survive thanks to the captain - Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger. Wow, what a blessing!

Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr!
Today Martin Luther King, Jr would be 81 years old! Please take time today to celebrate the life, the work and the legacy of Martin Luther King, for if it were not for his work, his diligence and his dream, the WORLD would struggle far more than we do today!
For those in Charlotte, N.C., I plan to list some MLK celebratory activities that will be taking place this weekend.

Be Happy For Others
I think it's very important to be happy for others when they receive blessings! I have a friend who has received a number of blessings today; good medical news, financial assistance and a much deserved opportunity at work! I am so happy for my friend that it makes me feel good inside. Real friends are able to celebrate the successes, achievements and blessings of others. Opportunities are not afforded to everyone at the same time, but that doesn't mean we can't always be happy for eachother. I'm super excited for my friend and I celebrate the moment!

I Am Not Perfect!
One of my personal goals is to stop being a perfectionist! I talked about procrastination a few months ago and how it can affect your life. Well procrasitnation; in many cases, stems from being a perfectionist. People who expect everything to be perfect tend to stall or procrastinate in taking action for fear of not doing it perfectly. We often have a hard time making simple decisions because we pay too much attention to the small details. This is ME all the way. My life seems to be an unorganized mess right now! I'm realizing that in order to be effective in any area of my life, I have to stop expecting absoulte perfection and just get out there and do what I need to do. If I fail, I'll just get up and try again!! Are you a perfectionist? How does it affect your life?

I am officially in love with Victoria Secret's Beauty Rush body mist. I guess I'm late, but I'm just learning about these. Any hoot. I recently purchased the Plumdrop Body Double Mist and I must admit that I love it! The Body Mist itself is a mixutre of a fragrance and a skin conditioner. It is kind of oily, so I suggest spraying it directly onto the skin (duh it's a conditioner) and not on your clothes. The plumdrop scent had a sweet smell to it, but not too much. It smells kind of "cleanish" smelling to me. Try it out. You can get them 3 for $25 right now! The bottle is 8.4 oz.
Have you tried any of the Beatuy Rush Body Mists? What do you think of them? Which scents have you tried?
